No. OttaNote simply runs in your browser: you open app.ottanote.com, sign in, and your notes are there — on any device, nothing to install or update. If you also want to work offline, dedicated programs for Windows and Mac are on the way (see below).
Anywhere with a browser, right now. For working offline, dedicated programs are coming: Windows is planned for 1 September 2026 and Mac for 1 October 2026. They come with every account — Free included — and you pay per person, not per device. A mobile app will follow later; first we're looking into what the app stores allow.
Yes. You export your notebooks as .enex and OttaNote imports them directly — with your nesting, ticked checkboxes, attachments and the original created and modified dates. You can also import plain text files, Markdown and HTML.
Always. You can take everything back out as Markdown or HTML — per note, per folder, or all at once as a full backup to your own device. Your data is yours.
The web version works online. The upcoming Windows and Mac programs also keep working offline and sync as soon as you're back online.
On our own servers in the European Union. You only see and edit your own notes (row-level access), and all traffic runs encrypted over HTTPS.
No. No tracking, no ads, no third-party analytics, and we don't sell your data. We don't read the content of your notes or use it for anything else.
Yes. You can lock an individual note with a PIN, or move it into the vault — which encrypts notes on your own device so we technically can't reach them (end-to-end). And you can lock the whole app with a PIN or biometrics.
Yes, but on your terms. You connect your own AI assistant through our MCP connection: you choose the provider and stay in control. OttaNote doesn't push AI into your notes itself — it's entirely opt-in.
Free for up to 50 notes and 50 MB of attachments, with no end date and no credit card. Need more? There's Plus: €3.99 a month or €29.99 a year. Prefer to pay once? There's also a one-time lifetime purchase (tiered launch price from €29.99).
Unlimited folders and notes, 10 GB of attachments, tabs, locking notes with a PIN, the encrypted vault, note links with backlinks, the AI connection, a year of version history and priority support.
On Free it is 25 MB per file, on Plus 100 MB. That is separate from your total space (50 MB on Free, 10 GB on Plus). If a file is too large, OttaNote says so straight away — before the upload, so you are not left waiting.
